Sound Doctrine and Sound Money

‘Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.’  ~ Matthew 7:15

As I have mentioned numerous times, we have only one television channel in our house—largely by design.  Sadly, one of the most nefarious and subversive shows currently on the air—The Oprah Winfrey Show—is on that channel.  (I am also not a fan of the Ellen DeGeneres show, funny and interesting though she may be.)  I would advise all against falling prey to the Divine O’s candy-coated poison. We would be wise to heed the warning of a former New Age disciple:

‘Oprah Winfrey will be letting out all the stops on her XM Satellite Radio program this coming year.  Beginning January 1, 2008, “Oprah & Friends” will offer a year-long course on the New Age teachings of A Course in Miracles.  A lesson a day throughout the year will completely cover the 365 lessons from the Course in Miracles “Workbook.”  For example, Lesson #29 asks you to go through your day affirming that “God is in everything I see.”  Lesson #61 tells each person to repeat the affirmation “I am the light of the world.”  Lesson #70 teaches the student to say and believe “My salvation comes from me.”

I urge all Christians to reassess their viewing of the Oprah Winfrey Show.  Her siren song is attractive in many ways but it is spiritually dangerous.

‘Phyllis Schlafly, conservatism’s “first lady,” had this to say about presidential candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: “He destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas and left the Republican Party a shambles, yet some of the same evangelicals who sold us on George W. Bush as a ‘compassionate conservative’ are now trying to sell us on Huckabee.”‘

‘[Iranian President] Ahmadinejad is not only jeered at Columbia but at colleges in Tehran. He is openly attacked by rivals. He does not control the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. He does not decide on war or peace. He runs a regime with 2 percent of U.S. gross domestic product, no nukes and no navy or air force to rival ours. He is a Shia in a Sunni world. How is this 5 foot, 4 inch Persian going to strong-arm the United States, Russia and China, not to mention an Israel with 300 nukes, into his “new order”?’

Walt Haisler sent me the link to this article which describes the process by which charity actually drives prosperity.  (It provides some very interesting food for thought.)

  1. I’m firmly against our involvement in Iran as well, but I think this writer would be more effective on an objective, logical, issue-driven level if he would leave out personal jabs. Citing military, money, and political popularity is all good sense – but what in the world does the Iranian president’s height have to do with his country’s weakness? And so many Republicans wonder why people think we’re jerks…

  2. Brian:
I think Buchanan was just trying to draw a contrast between the mythical madman constructed by the neocon warmongers and the reality, which is a diminutive bookish type who wields little real power even in his own country, much less the world.

And, for the record, I like short people just fine! 🙂
