This is one of my favourite country songs of all time.  (I just thought I would share.)

  1. Who doesn’t love a George Jones song – but for me, the REAL singer of the two is hands down, GENE WATSON. I’ve been a follower of his career for some time and I’ve been lucky to see both Jones and Watson in concert numerous times. Watson is by far the better singer and while you know Jones has lived out his anguish , I must say the concert that Watson puts on is electrifying- and still is at his mid-60ish age while alas, George’s voice is no longer the force it once was.

  2. I can’t say that I disagree; I tried posting a ‘head-to-head’ battle of the Jones video with Watson’s ‘Farewell Party’ but Youtube kept indicating that the video of the latter was ‘no longer available’–even after I had watched it.

That being said, I could listen to either of those guys wail all day.

  3. I think that FAREWELL PARTY is the BEST SONG EVER and it was recorded by the BEST SINGER EVER by the name of GENE WATSON. That man could sing the phone book and put anybody in awe!! He can now and could always outsing George Jones!!!!

  4. You are so right Grasscutter. No one can sing like Gene Watson. George might come in second, but not with that song. Don’t like it at all.

  5. I have to say that I love Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and for me, that’s his best song but I also love to hear A Good Year For The Roses and many more . However- placing Watson’s voice next to Jones – it’s Gene Watson all the way. Plus I’d rather hear Gene’s albums over and over just because the quality of his work is so great. Jones is all over the place and sad to say these days just isn’t in good form. Give me Gene Watson anytime!

  6. I have to agree with all of you & state that Gene Watson is by far my all-time favourite country music artist. But then again I would say that!

I’m the webmaster of the Gene Watson Fan Site which is based in Ireland & which has been online since September 2004; the present design of the site has been online since May 2007.

I have established a wonderful working relationship with Sarah Brosmer (Gene Watson’s Day-to-Day Manager) at Lytle Management in Nashville & she is quite supprtive of my online activities on behalf of Mr. Watson.

As a consequence, there is now an official Gene Watson website at http://www.genewatsonmusic.com which has been online since September 2007.
