  1. so I guess you are guilty till proven innocent, as long as we ” do it for the children”. Kids growing up in single mother welfare homes are probably on more danger than these kids were. They should have brought charges in public first, before seizing the kids.

  2. I couldn’t agree with you more, Brandon. My beef is not with a warrant being served IF they have probable cause to believe that a child (or children) in the house are being abused. My concern is with the massive show of force and the heretofore undisclosed evidence of abuse.

The charges may, in fact, be revealed as true; however, I am reluctant to believe that a charge of abuse by one girl should result in the confiscation of 400 children. Besides, the ham fisted and overbearing manner the ordeal was undertaken is disconcerting. Could they not have telephoned the leadership of that church and told them that they were serving an arrest warrant and then done so without such a production? (Of course, there would have been little PR value in that for them.)

It reminds me of what happened at Waco in 1993. Local law enforcement informed the ATF that Vernon Howell (‘David Koresh’) went into town EVERY DAY and would be easily arrested. No, that would not provide the television pictures and show of force they needed to justify their yearly budget. The result?: Five dead lawmen and 80 women and children incinerated.

In summation: I do not condone the polygamist lifestyle–nor their false religion, for that matter. If they are guilty of child abuse, those responsible–and those only–should be arrested and have their parental rights under review.

I just think the entire situation could have been handled better with justice still being served.

  3. that is also my concert with the seizure law with regards to the “drug war”. they can take everything you have and then you have to prove that you did no wrong to get it back. even if guilty, they have no right to take more than the direct items seen used in the commission of a felony.

I do like the APC though, I would so pimp one of those around town.
