But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “First seek the counsel of the LORD.”  ~ I Kings 22:5

I always enjoy talking with Pastor Jon; we have many of the same interests and his pastoral advice is always insightful and caring.  Regular readers of this blog know the emphasis with which I have treated the current economic situation we find ourselves in.  Jon has repeatedly helped me to keep things in perspective and tempered my concern with a call to view things within a biblical context.

Say it with me: God is still on His throne.  (Repeat as necessary.)

‘[F]rom many of our brethren we hear the sad tale that our political affairs are absorbing the zeal of our people. … In their patriotism they are unmindful of “that better land”‘.  ~ ‘Minutes of the Presbytery of Tuscaloosa, 1858-1863’ (cited in The Presbyterian Church in the Confederate States of America by Haskell Monroe)

  • The drive for androgyny in our society continues with full force.  Some of the gender-bending products now available include make-up for men.  Of course, no man is properly dolled up without his skirt and a nice pair of mantyhose.  (The whole world is turned upside down.)

The man, who would be beautiful, must adorn that which is the most beautiful thing in man, his mind, which every day he ought to exhibit in greater comeliness; and should pluck out not hairs, but lusts.   ~ Clement of Alexandria
