‘I am now eighty years old. Can I tell the difference between what is good and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats and drinks? ‘  ~ II Samuel 19:35a

I’ll take ‘Ten Beers You Will Never See Me Drinking’ for $200, Alex.

‘An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.’  ~ II Timothy 2:5

Due to the incessant (and celebrated) showboating and ‘All Eyes On Me’ mentality that plagues sports from Pop Warner football to the NBA, it is refreshing and heartening to read of honourable acts of sportsmanship.  Such was the case during a recent high school basketball game in Wisconsin recently:

Something else was on [Coach] Dave Rohlman’s mind when he asked for a volunteer to shoot two free throws awarded his team on a technical foul in the second quarter. His senior captain raised his hand, ready to go to the line as he had many times before.

Only this time it was different.

“You realize you’re going to miss them, don’t you?” Rohlman said.

Once upon a time, sporting activities were the means by which young men were taught chivalry, honour, and courage without needing to resort to actual combat in order to do so.  I pray that incidents of respect and sportsmanship once again become the norm in sports, rather than merely a refreshing exception–at all levels.

This Gives a New Meaning To ‘Women and Children First’

‘This heap is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you, and you will not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, to do harm.’  ~ Genesis 31:52

Building upon my post of a couple of days ago:

‘[Israeli Rabbi Morchecai] Eliyahu ruled that there was absolutely no moral prohibition against the indiscriminate killing of civilians during a potential massive military offensive on Gaza aimed at stopping the rocket launchings.’

If I were to hear this coming from the pulpit of a Christian church I would be infuriated.

Amazingly, the War Street Journal (of all things) if finally reporting accurately the ‘events’ in the Middle East: Israel is committing war crimes.

Show him no pity. You must purge from Israel the guilt of shedding innocent blood, so that it may go well with you. ~ Deuteronomy 19:13

‘O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?  How long will you love vain words and seek after lies?’  ~ Psalm 4:2

  • The presidential election season always results in more Pander Bear sightings.

  • If elected president, Senator John McCain would reserve the right to run his own warrantless wiretapping program against Americans, based on the theory that the president’s wartime powers trump federal criminal statutes and court oversight, according to a statement released by his campaign Monday.’

  • [Russian Prime Minister Vladimir]Putin, who has repeatedly praised the Russian Orthodox Church while emphasizing the separation of church and state, said during a visit to a church and monastery outside Moscow that Orthodox Christianity is an integral part of Russian culture. “One should not completely draw a line between the culture and the church,” Putin said in televised comments. “Of course, by law in our country the church is separate from the state, but in the soul and the history of our people it’s all together. It always has been and always will be.”

(Curious?  Click here. )

  • ‘As Lewis wrote them, the Narnia tales are centred on the figure of Aslan, the Lion—and Aslan represents Jesus Christ the Lord.  It is Aslan who gives life to Narnia and all its creatures, who draws children from our world into Narnia to carry out important missions: who, by sacrificing himself on the Stone Table and then rising from the dead, is Narnia’s redeemer.  Without Aslan there is no Narnia, and no Chronicles of Narnia.  But you would never get that from this retelling of Prince Caspian.’

  • In the Land of the Free Report: Cut your grass when you’re told or go to jail.

Neville Chamberlain’s willingness to hold discussions with Hitler regarding the Sudetenland was not the folly for which the British Prime Minister’s reputation has suffered all these years—nor was it the catalyst for World War II.  It would be wise for us to truly understand what actually happened in Munich in 1938 before we are again thrust into another bloodbath by the ruling classes who never actually see the battlefield.  As Patrick Buchanan notes, ‘Chamberlain went to Munich because he did not believe that keeping 3 million Germans inside a nation to which they had been consigned against their will was worth a world war.’

  • This post over at Dry Creek Chronicles paints a daunting picture of why we need to wake up or we will suffer the same fate as the Germans.

  • I have to admit that I, too, once thought that only someone guilty of committing a crime would hide behind the 5th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.  Now, I am not so sure.

  • Charles Darwin is being accused of stealing the (un)scientific ‘theory’ that made him (in)famous.  (It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.)

  • I have yet another reason to avoid the opera like the plague: ‘The New York City Opera commissioned Charles Wuorinen to compose an opera based on “Brokeback Mountain,” the 1997 short story by Annie Proulx that became the basis for a 2005 movie that won three Academy Awards.’

‘Messianic Jews living in the Negev Desert also say they are routinely harassed and attacked by yeshiva students, some inspired by Yad L’achem, a religious organization dedicated to stamping out Christian missionary activities in Israel. Random acts of anti-Christian violence have also occurred: last October in Jerusalem, a church was fire-bombed, and several days after Christmas, a German pilgrim who was returning from Bethlehem carrying a large wooden cross was attacked by a gang of ultra-orthodox youths who smashed the cross into splinters.’

‘His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.’  ~ Revelation 1:14

  • Michael has done a fantastic job on the new WPC website–you should check it out!

‘The whole nation is interested that the best use shall be made of these territories. We want them for the homes of free white people.’  ~ Abraham Lincoln, 1854

  • ‘What I am saying is that [Ron Paul] has been the subject of numerous meetings of GOP establishment figures and they have exchanged ideas and techniques for keeping him and his minions at bay.  I know because I was accidentally and spontaneously in the middle of just such a conversation.’  ~ Doug Wead, Special Assistant to former President George H. W. Bush

  • In the Land of the Free Report: Recent measures imposed by my (public) high school’s administration have paved the way for Big Mother. We were told a few weeks ago that we would need bar-codes on our ID tags.  For lunch to-day, our cash registers were fitted with computers and scanners that students had to sign into as they bought their meals. After a picture of the student and his information came up, the lunch ladies would then enter in what the student ate that day. A student could not buy lunch unless he went through this procedure.

  • There’s no evidence at all that the children of YFZ Ranch had been abused or neglected in any way, or that they had been deprived of affection from the people who mattered the most to them. And now that those kind, caring, self-described Christian people have “helped” them by terrorizing them at gunpoint and breaking up their families, at least some of these children will be left hurting, confused, and probably susceptible to whatever mind-rape the CPS sees fit to inflict on them in the course of creating “evidence” to justify this entire abominable enterprise.’  Governor Perry should resign immediately.

  • Remember Rainbow Man, the guy who used to hold up the ‘John 3:16’ signs during sporting events in the 1980’s?  He is now serving three life sentences in federal prison.

  • The united States Constitution guarantees freedom of association and the right to protest—at least it used to.  If you dare voice your opinion at the Republican National Convention, you could be branded a ‘terrorist.’

  • Jeremiah Wright, Barak Obama’s former pastor: ‘How do I tell my children about the African Jesus who is not the guy they see in the picture of the blond-haired, blue-eyed guy in their Bible or the figment of white supremacists [sic] imagination that they see in Mel Gibson’s movies?’

  • People hard up for money are turning in their family, neighbors, and anybody else for some quick cash payments from the snitch state.’
