‘But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; they have turned aside and gone away.’  ~ Jeremiah 5:23

  • I am a bit confused. We (the taxpayers, anyway) are forced to bail out Wall Street and the banksters who made ill-advised and irresponsible loans to folks who could not afford them—at the government’s insistence, no less—yet the credit card companies are being forbidden to voluntarily forgive a portion of their debtors’ balances in efforts to prevent further losses? We truly have entered Bizzaro World.

  • A conservative Christian activist says it’s a sad omen for the Obama administration and the United States that Barack Obama has been seeking guidance from the Episcopal Church’s first openly homosexual bishop.

  • (Sarcasm Alert.)  Isn’t it great that the pro-homosexual activists are so full of love, tolerance, and understanding?: ‘On Sunday morning, amidst worshiping congregants and following unifying prayers that our President-elect be granted wisdom as he prepares to lead our nation through difficult global, social and economic challenges, the Michigan left declared open war on peaceful church goers. They did it with banners, chants, blasphemy, by storming the pulpit, by vandalizing the church facility, by potentially defiling the building with lewd, public, sex acts and by intentionally forcing physical confrontations with worshipers.’

  • If the economy is truly slowing down (as I believe it is), someone needs to let Hank Steinbrenner know about it–quickly.  The New York Yankees have offered pitcher C. C. Sabathia a contract reportedly worth $140 MILLION!!  (If I were Sabathia, I would demand payment in gold…or Euros.)

  •  ‘Through war and recession, Americans have turned to the glistening canned product from Hormel as a way to save money while still putting somethign that resembles meat on the table.  Now, in a sign of the times, it is happening again, and Hormel is cranking out as much Spam as its workers can produce.’

  • ‘”God has vindicated the black folk,” the Rev. [sic] Shirley Caesar-Williams said as a member of her Raleigh congregation, Mount Calvary Word of Faith Church, brandished a flag and another marched among the pews blowing a ram’s horn.’

  • It was decades later that the truth came out that the Soviets invaded [Afghanistan in 1979] only after being deliberately provoked by U.S. hawks [emphasis added]. One of them was Robert Gates, who worked for [Zbigniew] Brzezinski in the Carter administration and who is currently the Secretary of Defense, now being considered by President-elect Obama to retain that position. A 1996 press release promoting Gates’ memoir promised the revelation of “Carter’s never-before-revealed covert support to Afghan mujahedeen – six months before the Soviets invaded.  The Gates revelation prompted an interviewer for the French publication, Le Nouvel Observateur, to ask Brzezinski in a 1998 interview whether he regretted “having given arms and advice to future terrorists,” and Brzezinski replied: “Regret what? That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it? …. What is most important to the history of the world? … Some stirred up Muslims or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the Cold War?”’

Oh, good heavens!  Let’s hope not!!

We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish social justice, draw the fangs of privilege, effect the redistribution of property, remove the burden of liberty from ourselves and our posterity, and insure the continuance of the New Deal, do ordain and establish this Constitution.   ~ H. L. Mencken, ‘Constitution for the New Deal’

  • It what can only be described as absurd: ‘President George W. Bush today will urge leaders of the world’s biggest industrial and developing economies not to abandon principles of free-market capitalism as they seek an escape from the international financial crisis, calling it the “best system” for delivering growth.’  (Such as doing what—government taking ownership of banks and bailing out private institutions with taxpayer money?!)

If this is ‘nuetrality’, I would hate to see her acting as a partisan!  (Good ol’ guv’mint schools!)

  • ‘[Obama] even openly mocked the Bible, yet nearly every black American Christian voted for him anyway.  Hence, black Christians proved their allegiance is not to Christ first, but to the color of their skin.  And for this, they need to repent. … Meanwhile, white Christians lined up behind Sarah Palin–a woman–for high public office.  They ridiculed those who invoked Scripture to point out this was unbiblical.  It would have been one thing if the Christians supporting her simply admitted they knew it was unbiblical and contrary to Scripture for her to be in office, but the threat of an Obama presidency was so awful they felt compelled to vote for her anyway.  But that wasn’t the case.  They actually wanted to change 2000 years of biblical interpretation and declare that it was biblically right for her to be in public office.’  ~ Pastor Matt Trewhella, Mercy Seat Christian Church

‘And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.” So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city.’  ~ Genesis 11:6-9

  • I love stories like this: ‘When the idea first came about, Jim Dobbs, the boy’s football coach, smiled. Julie Weiks, the boy’s mother, cried. Darin Weiks, the boy’s father, felt his heart skip a beat. And Darin Jr., the boy they call “Doogie,” the high school senior with the rare liver disease that prevents him from playing contact sports, refused to believe his dream would ever come true.’

  • If anyone has any doubt as to how much Hannah Ayers loves the children in our church, it was on full display (yet again) yesterday during the baptism of Ellie Woosnam. When the congregation was prompted to raise their right hands in affirmation of our vow to assist in the godly instruction of little Miss Woosnam, I witnessed (from my vantage point in the Training Room behind the Ayers clan) Hannah’s hand shoot up high into the sanctuary a full second before anyone else’s–and with an emphasis and enthusiasm that far surpassed the remainder of us. She loves our kids—and for that we should all praise God.

  • I have to give credit where credit is due.  More than a month ago Eric called me at work with a prediction: ‘Mark it down,’ he said with a subdued confidence usually reserved for Big Game Bob Stoops or The Fonz, ‘Franklin Bank will be the next one to go under.’  You know what?  He was right on the money.

  • A conservative non-profit organization has completed a study that shows the liberal tsunami on Election Day 2008 was not because the country wanted to move radically to the left, but because voters wanted to punish Republicans for abandoning conservative principles.’ In a related story: Water is wet.

Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors, which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?’ ~ Ronald Regan, 1975

Sometimes it takes a fat, stupid cartoon Rhode Islander to speak the truth.

  • The One Worlders are at it again. England’s Prime Minister has a Master Plan for all of us. (I assume he will serve as the Master): “My message is that we must be: internationalist not protectionist; interventionist not neutral; progressive not reactive; and forward looking not frozen by events. We can seize the moment and in doing so build a truly global society.”    I hate to be the one to bear bad news but it has already been tried at least once and God was NOT pleased about it!

  • It was asserted that Whites who refused to vote for Obama because he is black (although he is 50% White, too) are ‘racists’, yet fully 95% of Blacks voted against McCain.  Hmmm.

  • As I have said many times, somebody (you don’t always know who) will always benefit during an economic downturn.

‘It’s amazing we did as well as we did.’  ~ Sarah Palin

Hey, he was a nice guy, but business is business.

  • In the spirit of giving the Devil his due, I must praise President-Elect Obama for his plans to provide access to criminal trials for the detainees at Guantanamo Bay.  If they are truly guilty, what do we have to fear in trying them in public?

‘The LORD will strike you with madness and blindness and confusion of mind…’  ~ Deuteronomy 28:28

Funny search engine terms used to find my blog:

  • damon dinosaurs Harvard [Is dinosaurs the verb in this sentence?]

  • chuck ackerman obama [Hey, it’s better than Hussein.]

  • democrat and republican witches [It gives a whole new meaning to ‘Voo-doo Economics’.]

  • barack obama praying [I think they meant to write ‘preying’.]

Although we have yet to gain the Midas Touch when it comes to sustainable small-scale farming, the wife and I have had a few recent successes.  The latest (in addition to our thriving chicken flock) is our potato crop.  A friend at work related a unique method for growing spuds in a small space yet in large amounts: old tires.

The trick is to fill a tire with dirt and plant the seed potatoes (which are simply taters that you cut into pieces, each having at least one eye.)  Once the shoots reach 8 inches, simply stack another tire and fill it with dirt.  When the shoots grow through the dirt in the second tire and reach 8 inches, simply repeat the process.  Once you get the desired (and sustainable) number of tires in the stack, simply let the shoots grow as they will.  Once they die back, wait two weeks and then start harvesting potatoes!  (We’ll keep you posted on the harvest, so stand by.)

(Photo:  The seed potatoes were planted in the bottom tire; the shoots now stand proudly nearly two feet above their origin.  Somewhere in between lie dozens of little spuds.  Tubor-licious!)

The new chicks are doing fine, as well.  I constructed a roost using several yaupons I had from clearing brush over the past year or so to give them that ‘natural’ feel as they slept.  Their feather patterns are beginning to be clearly delineated and they are quite beautiful.  They are Silver- and Golden-laced Wyandottes.

Here is one of the more beautiful Golden-laced.  Her patterns are emerging sooner than most of the others to great effect, in my opinion.  (It took quite a while to get her to pose and this was the best picture I could capture.  I’ll try again in the coming days.)

A few of the new chicks peck and scratch their way inside the new coop.  I hope to introduce the old flock to them within the next couple of weeks.  That should be fun as they establish the new pecking order.

  • Sean Hannity is the worst sort of demagogue. He portrays himself as a conservative, yet the truth is that he is among the most partisan of neo-conservatives in his statism/ nationalism and militarism. His worship of the state is such that he has deified the military and declared it sacrosanct—above any criticism. In his shrill and indiscriminate defence of the troops he is not above lying…repeatedly. In recent days he has repeatedly castigated Barack Obama (who has his own brand of dishonesty and demagoguery) for charging the U.S. military with bombing Afghan villages and killing civilians. The problem is—it’s true. And I am sure Hannity knows it’s true.

‘[Robert E. Lee] was the very greatest of all the great captains that the English-speaking peoples have brought forth.’ ~ Theodore Roosevelt

Our wisdom, in so far as it ought to be deemed true and solid Wisdom, consists almost entirely of two parts: the knowledge of God and of ourselves. ~ John Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion

See if you can make sense of this:

‘That’s what I say that I like every American I am speaking with we’re ill about this position that we been put in where it is taxpayers looking to bailout, but ultimately what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, um, helping the, oh, it’s got to be all about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and, and, putting it back on the right track; so health care reform and reducing taxes and reigning in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans and trade… we have we got to see trade as an opportunity not as, a competitive, um, scary thing, but one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we we’ve got to look at that as more opportunity, all of those things under the umbrella of job creation, this bailout is part of that…’ ~ Sarah Palin

‘When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Men of Israel, why does this surprise you?’ ~ Acts 3:12a

  • According to conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, it appears that the bloom is off the Palin Rose: ‘Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who is clearly out of her league.’

Case in point: This is what I have labelled the Moose-in-the-Headlights Interview.

(It’s just plain painful to watch.)

‘This [Federal Reserve Act] establishes the most gigantic trust on earth. When the president [Woodrow Wilson] signs this bill, the invisible government of the monetary power will be legalised… [T]he worst legislative crime of the ages is perpetrated by this banking and currency bill… From now on, depressions will be scientifically created.’ ~ Congressman Charles A. Lindbergh, Sr. (1913)

‘[Economic conquest] … takes place when nations are placed under “tribute” without the use of visible force or coercion, so that the victims do not realize they have been conquered. “Tribute” is collected from them in the form of “legal” debts and taxes, and they believe they are paying it for their own good, for the good of others, or to protect all from some enemy. Their captors become their “benefactors” and “protectors”… The government will own nothing, the people will own nothing, and the banks will own everything.’

  • I almost fell out from underneath my tinfoil hat this morning when I read the following headline: ‘China Fakes Report from Space.’ Wait a minute! I thought that kind of talk was just conspiracy theory gobbledy-gook?!

‘Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.’  ~ John 4:35b

  • I have checked into the details and I was able to confirm that this incident did NOT occur at WPC: ‘Two people have been charged in a fight that broke out between neighbors attending a baby shower Sunday, during which a woman knocked another unconscious with a shovel and a man allegedly threatened a crowd with a shotgun.’

  • ‘In all that time, I was one of those atheists in the foxholes they say don’t exist. I could never have known that I’d find the faith to follow Christ and be baptized on Easter of my 56th year. But I did, even when I’d never grasped for spiritual reassurance as I slogged through the Central Highlands of Vietnam, leapt from airplanes into the night, or had helicopters shot out from under me. I’ve been taking up residence close to death for a long time. My faith isn’t about jumping over death. It’s about reconciling with God, who Jesus Christ showed us is Love.’

  • ‘Our political economy is rife with such catastrophes in waiting, yet the public always seems startled, and outraged, when the day of reckoning can no longer be deferred, and another apartment collapses in the state’s Hotel of Impossible Promises, loading onto the taxpayers more visibly the burden of sheltering the previous occupants. … If you think that Fannie and Freddie’s bust is a big deal, just wait until Medicare comes crashing down. Then, the wailing and gnashing of teeth will be truly unbearable. As that day rapidly approaches, however, you’ll notice that the politicians are doing utterly nothing to forestall it.’

  • ‘Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden said Thursday that paying more in taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans.’

  • ‘I also have to laugh – guffaw, really – at how easily conservatives have been taken in by the Palin choice. Why, it was only yesterday that the Right was breathing fire out of its nostrils and threatening to sit on its scaly wings come Election Day, what with the “maverick” (i.e., RINO) McCain at the top of the Republican ticket. Now even Rush Limbaugh – who was the loudest anti-McCainiac, if not the most articulate – is purring like the big tabby-cat he really is, sidling up to Palin and exhorting the party faithful to rally ’round the banner of Palinism. But what is Palinism, anyway?’

“[ABC News’ Charlie] GIBSON: And under the NATO treaty, wouldn’t we then have to go to war if Russia went into Georgia?

“[Sarah] PALIN: Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you’re going to be expected to be called upon and help.”

  • The federal government may seem like a financial knight on a white steed riding to the rescue of big companies in trouble. The irony is that Uncle Sam’s got enormous money problems of his own. The government is far deeper in debt than any of the companies it’s bailing out.’

  • I am not the only one who sees the inconsistencies inherent in what the author of this article calls ‘The Palin Predicament.’

  • Heading home to Alaska to prepare for her interview with Charlie Gibson, [Sarah] Palin was escorted by Randy Scheunemann, McCain’s foreign policy guru and, until March, a hired agent of the Tbilisi [Georgia] regime. Scheunemann’s lobbying assignment: Bring Georgia into NATO, so U.S. troops, like 19-year-old Track Palin, will be required to fight Russia to defend a Saakashvili regime that has paid Randy and his partner $730,000.’

  • The [economic] experts are scared.  I could see it as they faced the cameras.  They are seeing a meltdown.  Two icons of the industry died over the weekend.  A third is about to die. Then there is Washington Mutual.  It is close to the end. Its stock went under $2 yesterday.  It is almost a penny stock: below $1.  The 8th largest bank in the nation! • ‘Almost all Americans–and especially those in the blogosphere–are under a powerful form of mass mind control. They can only think in the categories of Left vs. Right, or Liberal vs. Conservative. This is why the Sarah Palin nomination is working so effectively. She represents a moral reinforcement to the Right, and that’s all that’s needed to push many a Christian Conservative to the McCain column.’

‘To promote a woman to bear rule, superiority, dominion or empire above any realm, nation, or city, is repugnant to nature, contumely to God, [and] a thing most contrary to his revealed will and approved ordinance.’  ~ John Knox
