Oh, they tell me that He smiles on His children there

And His smile drives their sorrows away

And they tell me that no tears ever come again

  • I urge you to contact our local CBS affiliate and urge them to drop Swingtown from their line-up. Here is what aired the other night over the public airwaves:

The opening scene see a stewardess go home with a pilot for 3-way sex with the pilot’s wife.

· Teenagers smoke marijuana as they drive away from school

· Two young boys get caught looking at pornographic magazines by one of the boy’s father. His response was, “Don’t let your mother catch you with this” and hands the magazine back to the boy.

· At a party in a neighbor’s home, one woman continues to ask the host and another guest for “coke”.

· The host offers Quaaludes to her guest to “loosen her up” for group sex.

· Several party guests are shown smoking marijuana.

· One scene shows an orgy going on in the basement.

· Two married couples have sex together.

  • I was very concerned for a time that there would be only one warmonger running for President. Thankfully, Obama has vowed to spill just as much blood as McCain: ‘I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Everything in my power. Everything.’  Be assured of one thing: despite having only one letter’s variance in their names, Iran is NOT Iraq. If–when–we strike them, it will be bloody and protracted. The ‘cakewalk’ we were promised in Iraq pales in comparison to a country of 75 million souls (more than double that of Iraq). It might well bankrupt us in young lives and treasure. And there will be a draft to fill the ranks. Those of you reading this younger than 25–or with sons in that range–are you ready to die for your government?

  • The CIA had long considered Marilyn Monroe a threat to national security from the time she had married Arthur Miller, because they thought of him as a leftist. Then the FBI started listening in on her phone calls and tracking her – even to Mexico, where Bobby Kennedy had a fling with her. A private detective took an audio tape of Bobby Kennedy and Marilyn in an “affair”. The FBI was tracking Kennedy, their boss, all over the place and listening in on his conversations, possibly because Hoover wanted something on Kennedy – and he certainly got it, because as she was dying, they were listening in.’ (Thanks to Lew Rockwell.)

‘Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.’  ~ Proverbs 16:31

——————————————————————–

I have posted and commented a few times regarding the obligation we have been given to provide an inheritance for our children and to do our best to provide for their well-being after we are gone.

There is a flip-side to that coin, as well. In addition to looking ahead, we are called to look back, as it were, to those who first cared for us. It is an all too prevalent view in society to-day that our responsibilities to our parents end the day we depart from under the roof they have provided. However, according to Jesus, the opposite is true; it is incumbent upon us to see to our parents’ needs as they grey:

And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”‘ (that is, given to God)—then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”’ ~ Mark 7:9-13

The question, then, is how best to provide for our aged parents. I would think that, at the very least, we should lay aside treasure for their care as we would an inheritance for our children. The debate, however, is usually to be found regarding whether it is best to oversee their care personally or to subsidise it professionally. I tend to prefer the former after having seen loved ones in nursing homes—though I am not condemning the practise. There are many fine facilities with talented and caring professionals who provide wonderful care for our aged. Yet, when I recently visited Ashlee’s grandmother in an old folks home, I was seized by the conviction that I do not want to spend the balance of my old age in such a place. I pray that my children will take the burden upon themselves (and it most certainly can be burden, no matter how willing we may be to carry it) to care for me—and I pray all the more that God will grant me the ability and the desire to do the same for my and Ashlee’s folks should that become necessary.

‘But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for(A) members of his household, he has(B) denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.’  ~ I Timothy 5:8

Here’s an interesting account for those lamenting the ‘inevitable’ nomination of John ‘100 Years in Iraq’ McCain:

One of the most interesting American political stories involves the nomination of Abraham Lincoln to be the Republican party’s candidate for President of the United States in 1860. This was the Republican party’s second presidential convention, and the man everyone expected to receive the nomination was the powerful and well-known William H. Seward of New York.

‘Abraham Lincoln, although having recently been introduced to eastern audiences through a series of political speeches in New England, and prior to that having gained some fame due to his participation in “the Great Debates” with Stephen A. Douglas, was not considered a serious contender for the appointment. How he and his political team brought him from “dark horse” contender to the victor is the subject of the following article.’

We don’t intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals of our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all.’ ~ Ronald Reagan, 1964

A significant number of folks have inquired as to why I grew my beard.  My retort has often been to point out that, physiology being what it is, the question that really ought to be asked is why they shave theirs.

The short answer is that a few years ago I continued to be overcome by a feeling that God had given men the gift of growing a beard for a reason and, over the course of several months, I felt compelled to give in to the inward call and let my beard grow.  I now can’t imagine myself with out it!

How womanly it is for one who is a man to comb himself and shave himself with a razor, for the sake of fine effect, and to arrange his hair at the mirror, shave his cheeks, pluck hairs out of them, and smooth them!…For God wished women to be smooth and to rejoice in their locks alone growing spontaneously, as a horse in his mane. But He adorned man like the lions, with a beard, and endowed him as an attribute of manhood, with a hairy chest–a sign of strength and rule.’  ~ St. Clement of Alexandria, 2.275

Keep in mind how we are lectured incessantly that the ‘Islamo-fascists’ (whatever that means) ‘hate us for our freedoms’ :

MR. [TIM] RUSSERT [‘MEET THE PRESS’]: ‘Why does [Osama bin Laden] hate us so much?’

VICE PRES. CHENEY: ‘It must have something to do with his background, his own upbringing. He’s the son of a prominent Saudi family, successful business group with significant wealth. He went and served in Afghanistan with the mujahedeen during the war against the Russians, and he has, for whatever reason, developed this intense hatred of everything that relates to the United States. And his objective, obviously, is to try to influence our behavior to force us to withdraw from that part of the world, and clearly he’s not going to be successful.’ [Emphasis mine.]  ~ September 16th, 2001

The Government of the United States recently voiced support for the Kosovar declaration of independence from Serbia. Pardon me if I’m a bit confused but I thought the U. S. did not support secession—and 600,000 dead soldiers proved it. What’s with the change of heart?

One of the most intriguing mysteries about the assassination of John F. Kennedy, that darkest of American labyrinths, is why his brother Robert F. Kennedy apparently did nothing to investigate the crime.’

The question is: How can one promote legislation that “provides help for the poor” without at the same time violating his pledge to promote legislation that offers “hope for the oppressed”? The only way for government to give money or services to the poor is first to take the necessary funds from other citizens, i.e., to steal from them, which surely qualifies as oppression. Furthermore, if Campolo purposes to “promote legislation that turns biblical imperatives into social policy,” how can he support laws that blatantly violate Exodus 20:15 (“You shall not steal”)?’
